Working with words is my passion...
I've always been creative with words and growing up this expressed itself through poetry, short stories, spying on neighbours with my pen and notepad at the ready (this natural nosiness/curiousity later came in useful), and correcting other people's work - including books for my dad who's a self-published author.
After abandoning the idea of becoming a lawyer, I graduated from university with a degree in Creative Writing and Film Studies and later trained in Newspaper Journalism at Harlow College on a scholarship from News International (the parent company of The Sun, The Times e.t.c.).
By then I had already set foot in many publications including the Daily Mirror, Sunday Times and The Guardian newspapers. In addition, I also spent two years as the Assistant Editor of an urban film magazine called bfm, which really gave me the footing for what I do now on the magazine side (thanks guys).
While I was at Harlow, I was invited back to work for The Guardian as a Junior Commissioning Editor on G2 in a new role. The job was full-time on a temporary basis (six weeks) but I somehow managed to juggle it with my studies, passing my journalism exams with distinctions.
In January 2008 I decided to fulfill my burning ambition to work for myself so I set up as a freelance editor, writer and CV Consultant (incidentally, the CV side emerged at bfm where I had to reject tons of poorly put-together CV applications for staff roles and work experience placements).
My other interests are health - more specifically raw foods, travelling, reading, watching films, and performance poetry. On the fitness side I like to run (I reckon I could have made it as a professional athlete had I persisted!) and I love cycling and basketball.
That's it for now, I look forward to hearing from YOU!
